general motors will contact the pontiac vibe owners affected by this recall and gm dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their toyota dealer or the toyota customer experience center at 1-80.

If the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire. irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat. the power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies.
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 camry, camry hybrid, rav4, corolla, corolla matrix, tundra, sequoia, highlander, highlander hybrid, yaris, scion xb, scion xd and pontiac vibe vehicles. Owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-88 (tty 1-80), or go to 11/05/12 owners may contact toyota customer service at 1-80. the recall is expected to begin december 20, 2015. if abnormality is found, the pwms circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. If the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire. during the manufacturing of the power window master switch (pwms), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts. I would install inexpensive fiber seat covers. I had the upholstery wear out on cars I used to own.

I was able to roll the windows up and down and that was important. It didn’t bother me that the replacements didn’t match the originals. I’ve replaced window crank handles with these aftermarket parts. This rack had some cosmetic parts such as window crank handles. I don’t know if it still exists, but there used to be a rack marked HELP in auto parts stores. I will have to admit that cosmetic.problems don’t bother me, particularly on an older car. Outside oil lines were marketed to resolve this problem which was more serious than Toyota’s sticky dashboard problem. I remember back in the late 1950s some cars developed problems with the oil passages in the block plugging up and the rocker arms weren’t getting oil. I don’t think any manufacturer can anticipate all the problems that may develop over time. The OPs Toyota was 8.years old when the dashboard became sticky. Whitney had a sliding panel kit that converted the package shelf under the dashboard to an enclosed area like a glove compartment. Ford, in its great cost cutting wisdom, omitted the glove compartment on the Ford Maverick.
Not only did it hold the headliner up, but I thought it gave the car the appearance of a more expensive car that had exposed roof bows from the factory. My 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass came down with the drooping headliner syndrome.
I have used aftermarket kits for cosmetic problems. I wonder if some aftermarket manufacturers have a kit to cover the sticky part of the dashboard.
